Quake in Chile shifted Earth's Axis

ARTICLE about how the recent earthquake in Chile shifted the earth's axis by about 8 cm and shortened the day by a few micro seconds!

Sound Laser prototypes developed

A cool ARTICLE on the development of sound lasers, which basically operate on the same principle of light lasers (amplifying certain wavelengths of light) except with sound wave. They do not have any apparent uses yet but the concept seems very interesting, and the fact that they were able to actually build a few even more so.

Scientists find equation for predicting material properties

A very interesting ARTICLE on how researchers at Princeton University have made a breakthrough in an equation that uses computers to predict a materials properties. They have apparently found a way to use the equation to predict the properties of non-uniform materials, while before it could only be applied to perfect materials (which are rare/nonexistent). How does this help us:

"Car frames made from lighter, strong metal alloys, for instance, might make vehicles more energy efficient, and smaller, faster electronic devices might be produced using nanowires with diameters tens of thousands of times smaller than that of a human hair."

Einstein's theories may not be the whole story

A STORY over at NYU's Scienceline site tells of possible findings that Einstein's theories of relativity may not hold for the universe at large. Apparently some older data on how certain galaxy clusters formed didn't match up with what Einstein's General Relativity predicts, though the findings have yet to be confirmed. If they do however, it seems that in certain places in the universe objects may not act according to gravity!

What is The Physics Spot?

The goal of this blog is to be a sort of physics hub, a place to share interesting physics links, posts, or news stories. It will hopefully be updated daily with new content. And it will also hopefully end up looking nicer than this! So, without further ado, lets get started.
